Question:
What is the difference between a facing brick and a building brick?

Building bricks are suitable for building a wall which later should be covered with some facing material. Most important parameters for building bricks are mechanical strength and frost resistance.
Facing bricks basically are ment for outer wall facing and it has to meet the highest standards. Facing brick is exposed to direct environmental impact (rain, snow). Important parameters for facing brick are not only mechanical strength and frost resistance but also surface quality and colour. Facing bricks are often used for indoor facing as well, as an interior element.

Is it true that a wall from Keraterm44 does not need an additional heat insulation?

If a dwelling house is built from Keraterm44 according to the technology, then the wall heat permeability corresponds to Latvian building standard LBN 002-01 „Thermotechnics of building delimitation constructions” and such wall does not require an additional heat insulation.

Doesn’t paving bricks crack after some time?

Paving brick has very high mechanical strength and frost resistance. Only granite paving-stone may compete with paving-brick in strength and longevity. Paving brick, of course, can be damaged, when you come over it with caterpillar tractor or beat it with hammer.

Where to use chimney bricks?

Chimney bricks (full facing bricks) are used for that particular part of the chimney which lies above the roof. Stove bricks (full building bricks) are used for that part of chimney which lies below the roof.

Is it true that vertical joints do not need to be filled with mortar?

The vertical sides of Keraterm blocks have special riffles which are joined by putting blocks close to each other making gearing. Mortar is used only for horizontal joints.

Is 12Mpa enough?

Mpa is a pressure strength indicator for Keraterm building blocks and for most of the building bricks. Such strength is enough for dwelling houses as well as many-storey buildings. 12 Mpa – approximately 120 kg/cm². To crush a brick (250x120x65) you should put on 36 tons loading, to crush a Keraterm bock (440x245x238) you need at least 130 tons.

Is it possible to cut Keraterm?

You may cut Keraterm but, in comparison with aerocrete and keramsit concrete , Keraterm is much harder. It is not possible to cut it with knife or manual saw. To cut Keraterm use a manual electrical angle bevel-machine with at least 230 mm ø diamond segment cutting disk or stationary sawing machine with bigger size diamond segment cutting disk to cut a whole block at one go (to cover machine rent expenses).

I have heard that Keraterm blocks often are brought damaged.

Keraterm blocks may be brought damaged if track-driver had transported them in a very high speed through a bad quality road.
Blocks may be damaged while they are inappropriately unloaded or reloaded. The most frequent cause of damaged blocks is following: to save time and money in one turn two or more pallets are unloaded together. Thus they are compressed from sides and blocks may be damaged. Block pallets must be unloaded one by one to escape damages!

What kind of mortar is used for Keraterm?

You may use two kinds of mortar for building with Keraterm:
1) mortar with heat insulation characteristics (cement mortar with light fillers – usually small keramsit fraction 2-4mm). In this case horizontal joints must be filled with mortar completely.
2) Ordinary cement mortar. Horizontal joints should be made with 5-7 cm air-gap to avoid creation of frost bridges in the joints.

How to lay paving bricks?

Paving bricks should be lied just like any other material – paving stones or paving concrete. There are many variations both for its design and base. If after laying it is planned to use vibro-plate, better cover the surface with plastic or rubber covering to protect it from possible damage.

What is M200?

Brick strength mark M200 means that the brick has average pressure strength not less than 200kg/cm². Bricks with strength mark 200 can be used to build many-storey building (10 or more stages) with building constructor recommendations.

Does Keraterm always requires facing?

Keraterm can not be left without facing because it is not a facing material. To protect it from direct weather condition impact and to cover the vertical joints, Keraterm wall should be covered with facing bricks or any other suitable facing material.

How thick heat insulation requires Keraterm25?

25cm Keraterm wall requires at least 75 mm thick foampolistirol layer. 44 cm thick Keraterm wall according to the Latvian building standard does not require heat insulation but, anyway, it is not forbidden to use it.

Why there are no green bricks?

Theoretically it is possible to make green bricks but our products are produced using natural raw materials which do not provide a green colour.
To get various colours, different clay mass, natural minerals and changing burning regime is used in production process. Brick colours are limited but at the same time we guaranty longevity of the material. Green colour can be obtained with brick glazing or with special coverage but anyway green will be only the surface.
